All About Murder
Best Adventure/Suspense Nominee!
Marie Cabot, daughter of a wealthy Boston family, has had enough of money-grasping, faithless suitors and decides to renounce men and marriage and live a life of freedom as a woman of independence. If only she weren't young and beautiful, people might believe her desire to become an old maid.
Tired of dodging husband-hunting debutantes and with a broken heart of his
own, Lieutenant John Appleton wants nothing to do with society ladies.
But when duty calls on John and his Navy frigate to rescue Marie from a pirate attack in the Mediterranean Sea and return her to the States, neither one foresees a romance on the high seas.

Read what the reviewers are saying...
"The Old Maid and the Sea is a vivid voyage! Author Pamela Cummings has used her extensive knowledge of history to create a fascinating and fact-filled setting for a sweetly romantic tale...From the opening pages to the epilogue, this story flowed with excellent writing. This reviewer was especially impressed with the creative use of contrasts throughout the book. There was a decided feminine appeal in the character of Marie Cabot, yet she often surprised readers with her knowledge of things that belonged to a man's world. While on board the ship, she actively pursued her interest in navigation and course settings. These nautical terms and ideas smoothly entered into the story to provide richness to the plot, and also to develop Marie's identity. On the other hand, the gruff exterior of John Appleton hid a softer side. The author allowed him to slowly unfold into a man of gentleness. The lead characters were placed in a variety of situations that served to propel the story line forward, as well to give readers a glimpse of their multidimensional personalities. This is a sweet romance, focusing on the emotional, rather than the physical side of love. This was also in keeping with the restraints placed on courtship during this time in history. All of the secondary characters added depth to the plot. Each one was drawn with creativity and purpose. This reviewer has had the opportunity to read several books authored by Pamela Cummings. Her ability to blend history with fiction is a gift that provides readers with stories that engage them on several levels. The Old Maid and the Sea charts a course for pure reading enjoyment!"—Joyce Handzo, In The Library Reviews
Read a short excerpt...
…With the breath knocked out of her, Marie lay helplessly in the man's embrace. He stepped to the rail, threw a leg over and climbed down to a waiting boat. Then he let go of her without warning, and she collapsed on the floor boards at his feet. The man snapped a command and half a dozen men swarmed up the side and onto the Greek ship. The remaining crew pushed off and leaned into the oars, sending the little boat skimming over the water toward the looming bulk of a much bigger ship which Marie hadn't even noticed in her struggle to escape from the pirates.
Escape. She'd felt so relieved to get away from the three pirates, but where was she going now? A slave ship? Would she really be sold into the harem of some Eastern potentate? Her parents would pay a ransom for her and insist the United States government demand her return. If her parents ever learned of her fate.
Marie scrambled onto a seat of the boat and leaned over the side. How long could she tread water? Long enough for some other ship, a merchant vessel perhaps, to find her in the morning? When she shifted her feet underneath her and rose from the seat, her captor glanced down and pushed her back to the deck with one swipe of his massive hand.
It was just as well. All the commotion of the attack had probably drawn the interest of sharks. Surely she was better off staying with this man, whatever he had in store for her, than taking her chances with sharks…
